The Norn Sisters
Eisa, Thyra and Verina
EISA
Eisa is the eldest twin. She is the daughter of Loki, the demi-god of mischief, deceit and trickery. Her mother is Verðandi, the primary norn the represents the present. Her twin is Thyra.
Upon her 16th nameday, the threads that she would weave into the fabric of fate were revealed. Being the firstborn of the three, she inherits her father's traits. She would weave misery, fear and strife as well as other negative emotions into the cloth of fate. As a result of weaving these emotions into the fabric, she no longer experiences them.
The very thought of bringing discord into the lives of men appalls her gentle soul. She now wanders the star alone, for every life she touches unravels into a world of chaos. She wishes for a reprieve from her duties to the design.
Thyra
Thyra was born exactly two minutes after her sister. She is fiercely protective of Eisa, though often admonished for this by Eisa. She is the more daring and reckless twin. Upon learning that the threads she would lend to the woven pattern of fate would be harmony, happiness and love were amongst her gifts to bestow into fate's fabric. Like her twin, she no longer has the ability to feel the emotions that she contributes as she weaves. She yearns for Eisa's abilities instead of her own; she is clearly her father's daughter and would do anything to secure his approval which eludes her.
Eisa's disappearance from Yggsdrasil spurs Thyra to search for her missing sibling. Her twin's last known whereabouts are Ishgard, a part of the star Eorzea. If she can't contribute Eisa's abilities to fate, she will make sure that her sister does.
The primary norns
Urðr, Verðandi and Skuld are the three primary norns. This triad of supernatural beings represent the past, present and future; only divulging their secrets as an individual's destiny arrives. They are responsible for drawing water from the sacred well of Urðarbrunnr to nourish Yggdrasil, the tree at the center of the cosmos, as well as to prevent decay of the great trees roots.
The three beings give birth to lesser norns who weave and shape the course of destiny bestowed upon each newborn that comes into existence whether man or deity. Each weave of an individual is created by two norns that contribute to the pattern. The third, a ryder, maintains the balance between the weavers while a fate is being constructed before tying off the thread and completing the fabric of one's fate.
A tryst between Verðandi and Thor was witnessed by Loki. Not to be outdone by his brother, a jealous Loki drugged Verðandi's wine. Upon Thor's departure, he took pleasure of the norn as well and his seed took hold within her womb. Like everyone else, the threads of fate revealed its plan for Verðandi. She would bear twins and a third daughter within a two year span.
